This steakhouse exudes an intimate yet upscale vibe, making it a coveted destination for those who appreciate bold flavors and artfully crafted dishes.
The menu is a celebration of robust, Latin-inspired fare where premium cuts of beef take center stage. Seafood aficionados will delight in standout dishes like the Happy Hour Grilled Oysters and delicate Scallops, each bite bursting with smoky, savory notes that evoke a sense of warmth and indulgence.
El Che masterfully balances hearty options with refined small plates that awaken the palate. The Provoleta—a melted Argentinian cheese dish—oozes with creamy depth, while the Beef Empanadas are packed with rich, spiced fillings that transport you straight to Buenos Aires. Crispy, golden Beef Fat Fries paired with a luscious aioli provide a satisfyingly addictive texture alongside unexpected gems like the Japanese Sweet Potatoes kissed with subtle sweetness. Their Gnocchi and Wedge Salad offer fresh, vibrant counterpoints, highlighting the thoughtful diversity of the menu.
Desserts, too, are a creative experience—one memorable surprise comes in a unique bonemarrow-shaped dish, blending playfulness with decadent flavors like caramel and rum, leaving a lasting impression on the senses. The beverage program complements the menu beautifully, featuring expertly crafted cocktails such as the Caramelized Rum Old Fashioned, which layers smoky sweetness with a smooth finish.
Patrons consistently praise El Che for its magical mix of flavor, service, and atmosphere. A customer described the experience as "some of the best food in Chicago," with dishes so memorable that they inspire culinary daydreams. The ambiance is dimly lit and romantic, perfect for cozy date nights or meaningful celebrations. While the proximity to the open-fire kitchen adds an exciting visual and aromatic element, a few have mentioned that it can create some warmth at the table, enhancing the rustic authenticity of the dining experience.
El Che’s attentive and friendly staff ensure your meal is as comfortable as it is delicious, catering thoughtfully even during late-night reservations. Whether you’re savoring smoky oysters with Latin flair or tender quail imbued with fragrant spices, the restaurant's approachable refinement invites both adventurous food lovers and traditional steakhouse aficionados to indulge fully.
In short, El Che Steakhouse & Bar stands out as a destination where passion for quality ingredients meets creative culinary storytelling—making every visit a flavorsome journey through the best of Argentinian and American steakhouse cuisine in an unforgettable setting.
Exceptional Latin-inspired steakhouse with an intimate tasting menu experience. We chose the $200 per person tasting menu and every course was delicious, beautifully presented, and generously portioned. The beef quality was outstanding and the creative dessert served in a bone-marrow shaped dish was a fun surprise. Only downside was sitting very close to the open-fire kitchen, which got extremely hot. Still, the craftsmanship and hospitality from the chefs made the night unforgettable. Highly recommend for true meat lovers!
My experience at El Che was magical to say the least. I was very impressed, probably some of the best food that I have had in Chicago in a while. I am not exaggerating when I say I have dreams about the food here. We got the bone marrow, oysters, party steak, patatas bravas, and sweet potatoes. Service was great, everyone was super friendly.
Best oyster appetizer in the city! The flavors are a combination of smokiness with delicious latin flavors. Their fries were crispy and thin with the perfect amount of salt and the aioli sauce was amazing. Perfect for a date night, celebration, or birthday. The atmosphere is dim, romantic, and upscale.
Love the ambiance, Nice & Cozy, Great tasting food. I recommend reservations. Our reservations were for 9:45pm, I believe the restaurant closes at 10pm, this however didn’t interfere with the food preparation and delivery. Nor did it take away from our waiter’s customer focus. As humans as the time nears for your shift to end or closing is right around the corner, our minds and body’s begin to clock out and we just want the day to be over. That was not the case here. The staff may have felt like they were ready for the day to end, however it didn’t interfere with their deliverance.
The drinks, chorizo, beef fat fries, and service were great. I ordered the ribeye medium rare, it was definitely served rare. It made the texture really chewy. Even if it was cooked a bit more, I do not think it was worth the cost.
El Che Argentinian Steakhouse delivers a memorable dining experience with great food, strong drinks, and a lively atmosphere. The service was solid, the ambience was enjoyable, and the flavors really stood out—especially the garlic sauce, which was absolutely delicious. The food overall is very good, though there is definitely a lot of hype around certain items. Some steaks felt overpriced for what you get. The Wagyu, in particular, had more fat than expected, so I’d personally recommend the filet mignon instead—it was a better balance and more enjoyable. As for drinks, while the cocktails are well made, the old fashioneds aren’t worth the $25+ price tag in my opinion. One standout recommendation: skip ordering everything and just get half of the signature fries with seafood—it’s well worth it and one of the best items on the menu. For dessert, the banana foster is unbeatable and easily the highlight of the meal. The only downside was a 3.5% administrative fee added to the bill. I understand this may have originated during COVID, but it feels unnecessary now—especially when alcohol already has a high profit margin. It would be more transparent to simply include those costs directly in menu pricing. Overall, El Che is still a great spot with excellent flavors, a fun vibe, and standout dishes. With a few tweaks, it could easily be an even better experience. Definitely worth visiting—just order strategically.
WOW WOW WOW! My boyfriend and I had our belated Valentine’s Day celebration here in August. It was a beyond incredible experience. We arrived a few minutes early but were seated right away at a corner booth, which our waiter said was “the best seat in the house” in his opinion. The staff were lovely. We decided to make a reservation here specifically because I wanted their Bone Marrow dish. It was first out and so so delicious! We also ordered the Sweetbreads, which I have always wanted to try. My boyfriend had never heard of the dish but was astounded by the flavour! I ordered Filet Mignon for the main and he ordered a Wagyu. There were cooked beautifully. The cocktails were also very good. It was one of the best meals of my life.
